What it does

Only their own. A vendor sees their approved orders, quotations, contracts, payments made to them and returns.
Orders answered. They answer an order, set its delivery date, add files and write messages.
Invoices sent, checked, then accepted. A vendor's invoice waits as a submission; a buyer accepts it into a purchase invoice through the usual checks, or declines it.
Quotations taken in. A buyer takes a submitted quotation in as a real one, then compares and awards as usual.
Requests for proposals. Vendors see your invitations and their closing time, and quote or decline; sealed quotes stay hidden until it closes.
Items shared. A vendor shares an item; a buyer adds it to the catalogue, links it to one you have, or declines it with a reason.
Contracts and returns. Contracts signed and discussed; returns answered.
Registration you approve. If you allow it, a vendor registers and waits, switched off, until someone confirms them.

Does a vendor's invoice go straight into my books?

No. It waits as a submission until a buyer accepts it; only then is the purchase invoice made, through the usual checks.

Can vendors register themselves?

Yes, if you allow it. Each new vendor waits, switched off, until someone with the right to do so confirms them.
