E-invoicing in Australia

The Australian government's business site says Peppol is a common standard in Australia, and that to start e-invoicing your software must be connected to the Peppol network. E-invoices are delivered by service providers the Australian Taxation Office approves; the ATO administers the network but cannot see your invoices. The ATO is Australia's Peppol authority.

The Australian Peppol ID

An Australian business is found on Peppol by its ABN (scheme 0151). Zyntra OS checks the ABN by its own check digits before saving, so a mistyped number is caught at once.

What Zyntra OS does with Peppol

Built into Zyntra OS, the business system Double Support makes in Amman.

Sends invoices and credit notes

An invoice or a credit note goes out by Peppol when it is issued, written as Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 and checked against the published Peppol rules in our tests.

Receives suppliers' bills

A bill a supplier sends you by Peppol arrives as a draft, entered exactly as the supplier wrote it. Nothing is in the books until a person accepts it; a credit note received is entered as a debit note.

Checks a customer's Peppol ID

Type the customer's Peppol ID and press Check: Zyntra OS says whether that customer can receive Peppol invoices. A slip in the digits is refused by the ID's own rule.

Shows the status on the invoice

The invoice's own page says Queued, Sent, Delivered or Refused. A refusal shows the reason the access point gave, and Send again is one button.

Questions about Peppol in Australia

What does my software need to e-invoice in Australia?

A connection to the Peppol network through an approved service provider. Zyntra OS connects through your own access point account and sends from the invoice you already issue.

Is the customer's ABN checked?

Yes. A mistyped ABN is refused by its check digits, and Check on Peppol says whether that business can receive Peppol invoices.

Can I invoice in Australian dollars?

Yes. A Peppol invoice carries the invoice's own currency, and Zyntra OS keeps each company's currencies.
