The rule

Since 1 January 2026, businesses in Belgium that are liable to VAT must use structured electronic invoices with each other. The Belgian government's own guidance says these invoices should be exchanged through the Peppol network. For the first three months of 2026 no fines were given to businesses that acted in a timely and reasonable way, and there is no general postponement.

The Belgian Peppol ID

A Belgian business is usually found on Peppol by its enterprise number (scheme 0208) or its VAT number (scheme 9925). Zyntra OS checks both by their own check digits before saving, so a slip in the number is caught at once.

Read the rule itself on einvoice.belgium.be, the Belgian government's e-invoicing site.

What Zyntra OS does with Peppol

Built into Zyntra OS, the business system Double Support makes in Amman.

Sends invoices and credit notes

An invoice or a credit note goes out by Peppol when it is issued, written as Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 and checked against the published Peppol rules in our tests.

Receives suppliers' bills

A bill a supplier sends you by Peppol arrives as a draft, entered exactly as the supplier wrote it. Nothing is in the books until a person accepts it; a credit note received is entered as a debit note.

Checks a customer's Peppol ID

Type the customer's Peppol ID and press Check: Zyntra OS says whether that customer can receive Peppol invoices. A slip in the digits is refused by the ID's own rule.

Shows the status on the invoice

The invoice's own page says Queued, Sent, Delivered or Refused. A refusal shows the reason the access point gave, and Send again is one button.

Questions about Peppol in Belgium

Is a PDF still accepted between Belgian businesses?

Not as the invoice. Since 1 January 2026 the invoice between Belgian VAT-registered businesses is a structured e-invoice; a PDF can still be sent beside it for people to read. Zyntra OS sends the structured invoice by Peppol.

Which Peppol ID does a Belgian customer have?

Usually its enterprise number (0208) or its VAT number (9925). Type it on the customer's page and press Check on Peppol to see whether it can receive.

Can my company outside Belgium send Peppol invoices to Belgian customers?

Yes. Peppol is open to any business with an access point. Zyntra OS writes the VAT treatment on each invoice — reverse charge, intra-EU supply, export or exempt — as you set it on the customer.
