The HR part: people and their time
- Employee records: contracts, job positions, documents, dependants and training.
- Attendance: punches, shifts, rosters and holiday calendars.
- Leave: each type with its balance, requested by the person and approved by the right manager.
- Joining and leaving: checklists so nothing is forgotten on the first or the last day.
The payroll part: from gross to net
Each month the payroll takes each person's salary and allowances, adds overtime and other earnings, takes off deductions, works out income tax and social security contributions, and arrives at the net pay. The result is a payslip for each person, a payment file and an entry in the accounts.
Why rules matter
Tax brackets, social security rates and what counts towards them change by country and by year. Good payroll software keeps these as settings, not as numbers hidden in the code, so the payroll follows the rules of the year it is for.
Hiring
Many HR systems also run recruitment: openings on the company's website, candidates on a board, interviews and scoring, and a hired candidate becoming an employee without typing them in again.
What to look for
- Payslips in Arabic and English.
- Leave approved by the right person, with balances everyone can see.
- Salaries that reach the accounts by themselves.
- Strict rights: salaries are seen only by those allowed to see them.
