Online exams

Updated in 5.20.69

Quizzes and exams the students sit in their portal: built from the question bank, open in their window, timed by the school's server, marked by their key at once and by the teacher for written answers — and counted in the mark sheet as drafts.

Who

«Build and publish online exams» builds, publishes and releases exams. «Mark written answers» marks them. «Reports» reads an exam's figures. A student sits an exam only with their own sign-in to the portal; a guardian reads the results once they are released.

Each line is one exam: what it is for (a subject and a section, or the whole grade; a course section at a university), its Window, its time and tries, how many of its students Sat it, how many written answers wait To mark, and its state — Draft, Upcoming, Open now, Closed or Released. Press a line to open it.

The online exams

Set an exam

1
Press New exam. Choose the Subject and the Section (or the whole grade), type the Title and the Instructions for the students.
2
Choose when it Opens on and Closes on, the Time limit (minutes) and the Tries a student has. Choose when The student sees the result: at once, when the try is handed in, or only when the exam is released.
3
In Counts in the marks choose the part of the subject's assessment plan the exam counts in (Quizzes, for example). Leave Shuffle the questions for each student and Shuffle each question's choices ticked so neighbours do not see the same paper. Press Save as a draft.

4
On the exam's page, under Questions, press Add from the bank and tick the questions of the subject; change the Marks here of any of them. Under Random draws press Add a random draw: how many questions, of which tag and difficulty, and the marks each — every student gets their own questions drawn from the bank when they begin. Press Save the questions.

5
Press Publish. The students see it in their portal and sit it while it is open. A published exam keeps its questions; its window, tries and instructions can still change, and a window students have begun closes no earlier than it said.

Who sat it

Under Students every student who should sit the exam is listed: Not sat, Sitting now, To mark or Marked, with their Best try, the Tries used, how many times they Left the page during a try and the Address it came from. The time of every try is counted by the server: it is handed in by itself at its limit, or when the window closes, with the answers saved until then.

Mark the written answers

1
Every other kind of question is marked by its key the moment the try is handed in. Written answers wait in Written answers to mark, on the online exams page; press Mark, or Mark try 1 on the exam's page.

2
The try opens with each question as the student saw it, their answer, the key and its mark, and the Marking guide of a written question. Type the mark and a Remark for the student, then press Save. Below it, Leaving the page lists each time the student left the exam's page and came back, with the time and the address — for you to ask about, never proof on its own.

3
When the last written answer of a try is marked, the student's best try goes into the section's mark sheet, in the part the exam counts in, as a draft entry — the same share of that part's maximum (15 of 18 is 16.67 of 20). A mark a teacher typed there is kept. The sheet is then submitted, approved and released by the marks' own steps; the exam never does it. Put the marks into the mark sheet does it again for every student.

Release the results

Once the exam has closed and no written answer waits, press Release the results. The students and their guardians then read each try's marks and the right answers. Before that, nothing of the key reaches the portal.

Reports

Under Reports: how many students were marked, the Average, the Middle, the Lowest, the Highest and the Spread; how the marks fall in each tenth; the Item analysis — for each question, how many were given it, answered it, got it Right, Partly right or Wrong, and its average (the hardest come first); and who has Not sat it.

Sitting it (the student)

In the portal, under Online exams, the student presses Begin while the exam is open. The Time left stays at the top; each answer is saved as they go. Leaving the page is noted for the teacher. Hand it in ends the try (or the time does). Afterwards See the try shows the marks — and the right answers once the exam is released.

At a university

An exam is set for a Course section, from the course's questions in the bank. Placed On the exam timetable, it takes its day and hours from there; when it is the course's final, a student barred from the final (past the absence limit) cannot sit it, and the exam's page counts them as barred. The marks go into the course section's mark sheet the same way.
